New Delhi, June 5: Japan and India have on Wednesday agreed to stay close in regular contact to accelerate “Modi-Abe vision” forward, according to the Indian ministry of external affairs (MEA) S Jaishankar.

After a telephonic conversation with Japan’s ministry of external affairs Taro Kono on Tuesday, Jaishankar took it to Twitter and said, “Had a good talk with Japanese Foreign Minister @konotaromp We agreed to be in regular contact and take the Modi-Abe vision forward.”

Kono has made a congratulatory phone call to Jaishankar over his appointment as Indian foreign minister and further highlighted India’s vital role as a world power towards the realization of an open and free Indo-Pacific, according to ANI news reports.

Kono stated now its time for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to pay an official visit to New Delhi this year. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already visited Tokyo last year.

He also invited Jaishankar to address the G20 summit of international foreign ministers in November, noting he would greet Jaishankar at an early scheduled date in order to discuss wing-ranging issues.

He also stated he will be keen to coordinate a schedule for a “2+2” ministerial conference as soon as possible.

While expressing gratitude over the congratulatory phone call by Japanese minister, Jaishankar stated he is also willing to hold a meeting with Kono in the international conference and pay an official visit to Tokyo at an early stage.

He said India expects further expansion of the scope of cooperation with Japan, a nation which India enjoy a special tie.
