Indian external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who paid a visit to Morocco on Sunday, has said on Monday, Indian will seek to bolster its partnership with Morocco in several key areas including cooperation on counter-terrorism.

According to ANI news reports, Swaraj said a MoU over counter-terrorism cooperation will be signed off between Morocco and India.

In her address to the Indian community in Rabat, Swaraj said, “Morocco has been a leader in counter-terrorism efforts and is a pioneer in fighting radicalization. We are signing an MoU in this files to further deepen our bilateral cooperation.”

While referring to Pulwama terror attack in India-occupied Kashmir which has led to the death of about 44 CRPF personnel, Swaraj said wanted to cancel her trip to Morocco, but was also persuaded not to do so by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Swaraj said, “It’s my first visit to Morocco. When I tour, I do so happily but I have come here with a heavy heart. I left on 16th morning and on 14th February 40 of our jawans were killed in Pulwama. I thought I should cancel my visit.”

She added saying that when she “mentioned it to the prime minister, he pointed out that Morocco had always stood with us against terrorism and is going to sign an agreement with us on counter-terrorism”. She further said Modi also said “the country is fighting radicalization and urged to me to go that is how I agreed to come here”.

Swaraj, in Morocco, is scheduled to meet with her Morocco counterpart Nasser Bourita along with other political leaders.

Meanwhile, during Swaraj’s interaction with the Indian community, Moroccan singer Nasr Mergri sang favorite bhajan of Mahatma Gandhi – Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye’.

The minister is currently on a three-day official visit to Spain, Bulgaria and Morocco.
