Iran vs the US

Tehran, June 3: Iran has on Sunday ruled out any possibilities of dialogues with the United States unless Washington changes its “general behaviour and actions”.

According to ANI news reports, Iran’s statement has come in a response to a statement by secretary of state Mike Pompeo, who has said the US was prepared to hold negotiation with Tehran “with no preconditions” in order to deescalate tensions in the Middle East.

Addressing a media conference, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Abbas Mousavi said for negotiations to be held between Tehran and Washington, the criterion required “change of the general behaviour and actions of the United States of America regarding the Iranian nations”.

Mousavi was quoted by The Times of Israel as saying, “The Islamic Republic of Iran ignores word games and the use of new languages to express secret aims.”

Pompeo has on Sunday said the administration was keen to hold ‘unconditional’ discussions with Iran in efforts to deescalate tensions between two arch-rivalries that has heightened during recent times, and have sparked fears of attacks.

Pompeo said, “The American effort to fundamentally reverse the malign activity of the Islamic Republic, this revolutionary force, is going to continue.”

Pompeo reiterated long-standing Washington’s accusations over Iran that it bents on destabilizing the region, but however, also marked out the potential dialogues as US President Donald Trump has suggested.

On Saturday, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has suggested Iran might show a willingness to hold negotiations with the US if it respect, adding the nation wouldn’t be “bullied” into talks with Washington.

He said, “We are for logic and talks if sits respectfully at the negotiating table and follows international regulations, not if it issues an order to negotiate,” adding, “We have shown that we do not submit to bullying and covetous powers.”
