Iraqi President on Monday alleged that the United States President Donald Trump did not even ask about Iraqi’s permission for the American troops deployed there to “watch Iran”.

According to Reuters news reports, while speaking at a forum scheduled in Baghdad, the Iraqi President Barham Salih’s comment came while responding to a question over Trump’s remark to the CBS News in an interview about how he would ask his troops stationed there (Iraq) to keep a close eye on Iran or “watch” Iran.

The Iraqi president said the US forces in Iraq are the part of an agreement which was signed between the two countries’ leaders with a specific mission defeating the terrorism, and that they must stick to the mission.

Trump has on Sunday said that it was important for the American military to show their presence in Iraq in order to keep a close eye on Iran as “Iran is a real problem”, according to his CBS interview to be broadcast on Sunday.

Salih said, “Don’t overburden Iraq with your own issues.” He further added saying, “The U.S. is a major power … but do not pursue your own policy priorities, we live here.”

Iraq is in a difficult position, as the tensions between the two biggest allies – Washington and Iran – has increased.

Salih said: “It is of fundamental interest for Iraq to have good relations with Iran and other neighboring countries.”
