Tehran, Sep 21: Any nation that would attempt to target Iran will be the “main battlefield”, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) head Major General Hossein Salami said on Saturday.

On Saturday, Salami was quoted by state-run TV as saying, “Be careful, a limited aggression will not remain limited. We are after punishment and we will continue until the full destruction of any aggressor.”

He further reiterated the warnings by the Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, that the nation’s military would attack all drones breaching Iran’s airspace, according to Sputnik news reports.

Iranian officials have maintained its stance against the United States following Yemen Houthi rebels-claimed drone attacks on Saudi Arabia‘s Aramco oil plants, stating on Friday it would oppose any American plots against the Islamic Republic “from the Mediterranean, to the Red Sea, and to the Indian Ocean”.

According to Reuters, the latest strike in a rhetoric stream from Iranian officials came from General Yahya Rahim-Safavi – Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah’s senior advisor, as President Hassan Rouhani was getting ready to depart for the New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) next week.

On Friday, General Yahya Rahim-Safavi was quoted by state-run IRNA news agency as saying, “If the Americans think of any plots, the Iranian nation will respond from the Mediterranean, to the Red Sea, and to the Indian Ocean.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has on Thursday condemned the United States, noting Tehran pursued diplomatic means to ease escalated tensions in the Middle East, whereas Washington has preferred to use military means against the Islamic Republic, according to Sputnik.

The statement comes after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia officially joined the coalition of the US-led international maritime mission that aims at patrolling waters nearby Iran. Their decision came following Yemen’s Houthi rebel-claimed drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s Aramco oil plants.
