New Delhi, August 20: Israel congratulated India on Tuesday for successfully placing second moon mission “Chandrayaan-2” in the moon’s orbit.

The spacecraft will next month attempt to make a landing on moon, according to ANI news reports, Israeli embassy in India extended its best wishes for this success of India’s moon mission.

In a tweet, the Israeli embassy said: “Congratulations to India and Team @ISRO for successfully completing Lunar Orbit insertion of #Chandrayaan2. Good Luck for a successful & soft landing on the moon next month! #Chandrayan2.”

India’s second moon mission module – Chandrayaan2, has begun orbiting the Moon, around a month after it blasted off, the officials have confirmed the report.

New Delhi hopes the $145m (£116m) moon mission will be the first-ever mission to land on the south pole of the moon.

India’s moon mission, Chandrayaan-2, was set off from the Satish Dhawan Space centre in Andhra Pradesh‘s district of Nellore at Sriharikota, by ISRO.

Setting in place India’s bid to return to the moon, the Indian space agency’s heavy-lift rocket, the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-Mk III), carrying the 3,850 kg Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft, blasted off on July 22 afternoon, according to reports.
