Israel’s military has on Monday said, it has targeted Iranian Quds in the Syrian region and has warned Syrian military forces not to attack the Israeli military forces or territory.

According to news reported by Reuters, while citing Syrian military sources, a Syrian state-media said Israel has launched an “intense attack through consecutive waves of guided missiles”, but also the Syrian air defences has hit back and destroyed most of their “hostile targets”. Those who have witnessed the incident in Damascus said a loud explosion has rung out in the middle of the night for nearly an hour.

In an official statement, the Israeli military said: “We have started striking Iranian Quds targets in Syrian territory. We warn the Syrian Armed Forces against attempting to harm Israeli forces or territory.”

The Iranian Quds forces are in charge of Iran’s revolutionary guards’ overseas operations.

The strike targeting Iranian Quds took place at cross-borders on Sunday, where Syria said it has repelled Israel’s air attack. Israel said it has intercepted a rocket targeting Iranian Quds at the Golan Heights.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We have a permanent policy, to strike at the Iranian entrenchment in Syria and hurt whoever tries to hurt us.”

The Israeli military said a famous winter sports site on Mount Hermon in Israeli-controlled Golan Heights would be shuttered for a day. It further added otherwise, things remained “routine” alongside the frontier with Syria.

Last week, Netanyahu has acknowledged an Israeli attack over what he called an Iranian arms cache in Syria, where Tehran used to provide Damascus with vital support.

Netanyahu told his cabinet Israeli forces had carried out “hundreds” of attack to curtail Iran and its ally Lebanon’s Hezbollah over the past years of the Syrian war.
