Italy has finally manoeuvred its way out of the threatening political deadlock after the two opposing parties decided to unite to form one populist government in Italy under the jurisdiction of newly appointed Prime Minster Giuseppe Conte. Five Star Movement, the anti-establishment party, and League, the far-right anti-EU party of Italy came to a mutual decision of forming a coalition government for the country which would be based on goals to increase the spending, question all the fiscal rules of the European Union, and bring down the rate of immigration into the country by a huge margin.

After being in a political deadlock under President Sergio Mattarella for so many months, the news of the upcoming coalition took many countries by surprise. For instance, during her visit to Portugal, Chancellor Angela Merkel gave her opinions upon the matter, promising that Germany would be ready to work with Italy, and deal with their government in a very open-minded way, and reach out to the country despite the kind of ruling body it elects. Chancellor Merkel wished, however, that Italy’s new regime would not hamper the peace and unity within the countries of the eurozone. Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, however, did not hesitate to express his extreme dissatisfaction towards the possibility of a country like Italy having an anti-EU government.

On the other hand, during a daily news briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying conveyed China’s extreme happiness towards Italy finally allowing itself to be ruled by a government which would undoubtedly lead them to social and political stability, as well as economic prosperity. Their decision to end unnecessary complications regarding re-elections was definitely very well perceived by China. Hua Chunying also added that Italy had always been an important state of the European Union, but their relationship with China had remained on extremely friendly terms.
