Dhaka [Bangladesh], July 31: Japan has offered on Tuesday to play a vital role as a mediator in between Myanmar and Bangladesh in order to ensure smooth and peaceful repatriation of Rohingya Muslims individual to their homeland, Rakhine state – their place of origin.

According to ANI news reports, the Japanese authorities said the offer was made during a bilateral meeting between Japanese foreign minister Tara Kono and his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

Addressing a media conference in Dhaka after concluding the bilateral meeting, the two foreign diplomats stressed over the importance and need for meaningful and necessary steps to be supposedly taken by the government of Myanmar to establish an environment making a possible return of the Rohingyas, as reported by Dhaka Tribune.

Kono, serving his official three-day visit to Bangladesh, has paid a visit in Cox’s Bazar, where Rohingyas were being settled under refugee camps, earlier in the day and held dialogues with several individual living there in order to understand their situation and condition first hand.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s law minister Anisul Huq has told the United Nations (UN) on Tuesday the flow of Rohingyas migrants into Bangladesh continues still, although low.

It may be underlined Myanmar and Bangladesh had inked a repatriation agreement in November 2017 but however, no Rohingya have ever volunteered to return to their homeland, so far.  Bangladesh has stated it would not force any Rohingya migrant to leave the nation.

A 15-member team of the delegation of Myanmar federal officials on Saturday paid a visit to Cox’ Bazar and held repatriation dialogues with the Rohingya Muslim community.
