Japan’s chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga has said on Monday Tokyo would not at all welcome the termination of both the United States and Russia from Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty but it does understand US’ motive that has triggered Washington to suspend its compliances with Moscow.

According to Sputnik news reports, at a news briefing, Suga said: “The treaty has played a historic role in the arms control and reduction. We qualify the situation in which the treaty has to be terminated as unwelcome.”

Suda further added that Japan was able to understand the kind of “essence of the problem that triggered the United States to announce its decision”.

The US state secretary Mike Pompeo has on Friday, announced that Washington has suspended its compliances under the INF pact and also triggered the six-m0onth withdrawal process amidst accusations over Russian “violations” of the treaty, a claim which Russia has strongly denied. After that, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia had also suspended its compliances in the pact to retaliate to Washington’s move. However, Putin further stressed that all Russian proposals have remained on the table.

China has opposed the United States withdrawal from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty deal with Russia and further urged both the two countries – the US and Russia – to “resolve differences through constructive dialogue”.
