London, Sep 6: Jo Johnson, the youthful sibling of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, is stepping down as an MP and minister, stating he is “torn between family loyalty and the national interest”.

The business pastor and Tory MP for Orpington, south-east London, refered to an “unresolvable strain” in his job. BBC political supervisor Laura Kuenssberg said it was”unbelievable timing”.

Johnson cast a ballot Remain in the 2016 EU participation vote, while his sibling co-drove the Leave battle, according to BBC.

Jo Johnson’s resignation pursues the expulsion of the Tory whip from 21 MPs this week for supporting moves to avert a no-deal Brexit.

Addressing an event in West Yorkshire, Johnson called his younger brother a “fantastic guy”, as well as, a “brilliant minister”. But he also said he had a “different approach to me about the European Union“.

A Downing Street spokesman said: “The PM, as both a politician and brother, understands this will not have been an easy matter for Jo. The constituents of Orpington could not have asked for a better representative.”

Labour Party’s shadow education secretary Angela Rayner stated: “Boris Johnson poses such a threat that even his own brother doesn’t trust him.”
