Islamabad, July 20: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is slated on Saturday to embark on an official three-day visit to the United States to hold his first diplomatic meeting with President Donald Trump.

Moreover, Khan is also expected to hold discussions related to Afghanistan and peace in the South Asian region during his meeting with Trump slated to take place in Washington DC, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has said on Friday.

He travelled to the US via Qatar Airways from a commercial flight in a bid to cut short his flight ticket expenses, according to Dawn news reports.

Also, reports had suggested the prime minister had formally requested to make his stay at the resident of Pakistan’s representative to America.

In a series of tweets on Friday, the PTI said, “Pak-US friendship has been a bumpy ride but a cordial friendship, nevertheless. PM Khan’s visit to US is rekindling that friendship again for mutual cooperation towards one goal: Peace & Stability in the region!”

It said Khan’s visit will highlight the nation’s policy of “peaceful neighbourhood” aimed at resolving disputes via dialogue and promoting the vision of peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia and beyond.

Moreover, during his engagements in Washington DC with the US president, Khan will outline his vision of “Naya Pakistan” and underline the importance Islamabad attaches to a broader and multi-faceted tie with Washington.

PTI tweeted: “The whole world acknowledges the importance of Pakistan’s strategic location in the region. That is why it is imperative to let the world know of Pakistan’s efforts for peace in the region. PM Khan’s visit to US is also a step towards that greater goal!”

Ahead of Khan-Trump meeting, Pakistan has recently arrested UN-designated global terrorist and JuD chief Hafiz Saeed who was the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

India has rejected this move, saying it was nothing more than a “drama” as Hafiz has been detained over multiple occasions earlier.

Indian ministry of external affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar has said: “The question is whether this time it would be more than a cosmetic exercise and whether Hafiz Saeed will be tried and sentenced for his terrorist activities.”
