North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was re-elected as the chairman of the state affairs commission, the highest-decision making communist state’s body, Yonhap News Agency reported on Thursday.

In an official statement, the government stated: “The election of the supreme leader a chairman of the state affairs commission of the DPRK is the great political event of crucial historical significance.”

According to ANI news reports, through an amendment in the constitution of the country, when the commission was formulated, Kim was elected in June 2016 as chairman.

Meanwhile, a senior member of the ruling Workers’ Party, Kim Jae-ryong, was appointed as the premier of the country replacing Pak Pong-ju.

Reportedly, Kim Yong-choi, North Korean top denuclearization negotiator, who has been involved in the second summit of Kim and his United States counterpart Donald Trump in February, was also elected as a member of the commission.

In February, Kim and Trump held their historic second summit in Vietnam but failed to reach any nuclear agreement due to the difference as Kim stressed over US sanctions relief and Trump focused over Kim’s commitment of complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Though, Kim sought few US treasury sanction relief, as Trump wanted to keep denuclearization talks on the track with North Korea.
