increasing differences between US and North Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has on Saturday said the nuclear talks impasse with United States President Donald Trump raised risks of reviving tensions, and further stated he is interested in meeting Trump again only if Washington presented with a right attitude, state-run media KCNA reported.

According to Reuters news reports, Kim said he will wait “till the end of this year” for the US president to be more flexible in meetings with him.

During delivering a speech to the Supreme People’s assembly on Friday, Kim was quoted by KCNA as saying, “It is essential for the U.S. to quit its current calculation method and approach us with a new one.”

Kim and Trump have held two summit since last year, one of Singapore and another in Vietnam in this year’s February, which failed abruptly without reaching any nuclear deal due to differences, as Kim stressed over US sanctions relief and Trump called for Kim’s commitment of full denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

On Thursday, Trump said he was ready to hold meetings with Kim again, but Kim in his speech said the results in the Hanoi summit has led him to raise the strategy issue which he last year embraced of international engagement and discussions with the US.

Kim said the Hanoi summit “aroused a strong question if we were right in taking the steps with a strategic decision and bold resolution, and evoked vigilance as to the U.S. true willingness to improve its relations with the DPRK”.

Kim said the US came to the summit only racking its brain to find ways that are absolutely impracticable” and also did “not really ready itself to sit with us face-to-face and settle the problem”.

He said, “If it (the United States) keeps thinking that way, it will never be able to move the DPRK even a knuckle nor gain any interests no matter how many times it may sit for talks with the DPRK.”

Kim said North Korea will “wait for a bold decision” from the US with patience will the end of this year but, “I think it will definitely be difficult to get such a good opportunity as the previous summit”.
