North Korean President Kim Jong-Un has said on Thursday that he would not be in Vietnam for the meeting with his United States counterpart Donald Trump if he wasn’t prepared to pursue the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

While responding to reporters during his meeting with Trump, the North Korean leader said he would be keen to welcome the idea of establishing a US liaison office in N Korea’s capital, Pyongyang, according to Reuters news reports.

When asked if he was ready to give up country’s nuclear weapons, Kim told reporters: “If I’m not willing to do that, I won’t be here right now.”

Responding to Kim’s remark, Trump said, “That might be the best answer you’ve ever heard.”

Though Trump did not further explain what “denuclearization” would entail, when asked if he was ready to take some concrete steps, Kim said that they had been just talking about that.

Kim told reporters: “Hope you give us more time to talk. Even a minute is precious.”

While the United States is demanding North Korea give up all of its nuclear and missile programmes, North Korea wants to see the removal of a US nuclear sanctions for its Asian allies such as South Korea and Japan.
