New Delhi, May 29: Top leaders and special representatives of eight nations, including Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, have confirmed on Wednesday their participation in Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, according to an official spokesperson.
Following is the list of leaders of the nations who are slated to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony which is scheduled for May 30 in Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi:
- Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sir Lanka
- Abdul Hamid, President of Bangladesh
- Dr. Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Bhutan
- KP Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal
- Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister of Mauritius
- U Win Myint, President of Myanmar
- Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Grisada Boonrach, the special representatives of Thailand, is also slated to attend the ceremony, according to ANI news reports.
In 2014, former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had addressed Modi’s first swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi on May 26 where the SAARC nation’s leaders were invited.
Pakistan has on Tuesday tried to downplay India’s decision of not inviting Prime Minister Imran Khan to Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on May 30, stating Modi’s “internal politics” doesn’t allow him to extend an invitation to Khan.
The Indian government has on Monday announced it has extended invitations to leaders from BIMSTEC nations to attend Modi’s swearing-in inauguration, excluding Pakistan, which is only a member of the grouping.
