Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the head of Libyan National Army (LNA), has said on Monday it possessed evidence and documents confirming that Turkey backs Daesh or ISIS (Islamic State), the globally recognized terror outfit.

On its official Twitter account page, the LNA said, “Turkey is one of the countries supporting terrorism around the world. We possess leaked #Turkish documents and other evidence that prove the Turkish regime’s support for #ISIS.”

According to Sputnik news reports, the LNA statement further added the group was fighting against al-Qaeda terrorist organization in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

On Friday, Syrian envoy to the UN Bashar Jaafari has accused Ankara of supporting and backing Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist outfit and several other terror organizations in the Idlib region held by Syrian militants.

Since the death of dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has been divided into two sectors. The Libyan National Army (LNA) backed parliament controls the east of Libya, while the United Nations-backed interim GNA (Government of National Accord) holds control over the western region on Libya from Tripoli.

While the United States supports the UN-backed interim GNA led by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, the American military officers and diplomats maintain contacts with Russia-backed Haftar LNA.

The White House has, on April 20, said US President Donald Trump has held a telephonic conversation with Libyan commander Haftar on Monday, where both leaders discussed ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
