French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged on Monday to reconstruct Notre Dame cathedral after a deadly blaze devasted the historic cathedral on Monday.

However, the fire was brought under control, according to Paris police. Macron praised the firefighters for preventing cathedral’s historic towers and facade, according to ANI. Macron said, “Thanks to their bravery, the worst has been avoided.”

According to Reuters news reports, Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo said, “Thanks to the @PompiersParis, the police and the municipal agents the Crown of Thorns, the Tunic of Saint Louis and several other major works are in a safe place.”

While speaking to reporters near the cathedral on Monday’s evening, Macron said international fundraising will be conducted on Tuesday to reconstruct the burnt Norte Dame cathedral.

In front of the burning cathedral, Macron stated, “Notre-Dame is our history, our literature, part of our psyche, the place of all our great events, our epidemics, our wars, our liberations, the epicentre of our lives.”

While announcing an international fundraising campaign, Macron said, “Notre-Dame is burning, and I know the sadness, and this tremor felt by so many fellow French people. But tonight, I’d like to speak of hope too.”

He said let’s be “proud” as France have built this cathedral around 800 years ago, and throughout the centuries, “let it grow and improve it”. He added, “So I solemnly say tonight: we will rebuild it together.”
