Britain, May 23: British Prime Minister Theresa May is likely to announce her resignation on Friday amid Brexit deadlock and in the wake of disagreements with the lawmakers over her proposed Brexit deal, as per The Times reports on Thursday.

May is expected to announce she will leave the office after holding a meeting with the head of the 1922 committee, Graham Brady. The 1922 committee is the conservative party’s group in the United Kingdom (UK) House of Commons which is responsible for overseeing the leadership of the party.

Earlier this week, the prime minister presented a new version of her withdrawal deal. May argued if the European members of parliament supported her plan it would enable to vote over a confirmatory Brexit vote. However, May’s this move attracted strong condemnation among officials and lawmakers.

Moreover, Brexit supporter and House of Commons leader Andrea Leadsom has resigned the cabinet, stating she does not believe Prime Minister government’s approach would deliver Brexit.

Leadsom’s resignation comes amid a backdrop against the prime minister’s Brexit deal from Conservative members of parliament.

The PM office has stated May was “disappointed” over Leadsom’s resignation but however, she “remains focused on delivering the Brexit people voted for”.

The Brexit deal has been thrice defeated in the British parliament and the chance to get May’s divorce deal through the parliament for the fourth time looks not okay.
