The United Kingdom prime minister has on Thursday scrambled for options to secure her Brexit agreement in the parliamentary deadlock by setting up plans for votes on her European Union (EU) divorce deal scheduled to take place on Friday.

British lawmakers are slated to hold a vote session on Friday on Prime Minster Theresa May’s withdrawal deal but not over the future relation framework with the EU which she had negotiated at the same time, accordingt to Reuters news reports.

Last week, Britiain agreed to delay scheduled departure from the bloc which was orginially planned on March 29 until April 12.

House of commons leader Andrea Leadsom told lawmakers: “The European Union will only agree an extension until May 22 if the withdrawal agreement is approved this week,” adding, “Tomorrow’s motion gives parliament the opportunity to secure that extension.”

May has on Wedneday also offered to step down if her Brexit deal was passed through parliament, while securing supports from few high-profile critics in her party.

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has said it still remain against May’ deal, refusing her votes which she desperately need to get her deal passed through the parliament.

The DUP deputy head Nigel Dodds told the BBC, “Things change by the hour here but I’m not expecting any last minute rabbits out of the hat.”
