Washington DC, Sep 13: Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard has on Thursday slammed a US Supreme Court’s order – that would cease migrants from nations other than Canada and Mexico from applying for asylum seeker plan at the US border, as “astonishing”.

Addressing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s daily media briefing, Ebrard said Mexico would never implement such a rule on asylum seeker and the nation has different policies when it comes to immigration plan. “Our policy of refuge, of asylum is a tradition in Mexico,” he said.

According to Al-Jazeera, the US Supreme Court on Wednesday granted the Trump administration to implement any rule that would cut down asylum application by immigrants at the US-Mexico border.

“The United States has a very hardline immigration policy,” Ebrard continued. “The court’s decision is astonishing in the impact that it is going to have.”

Mexico has, quite a while ago, opposed a purported safe third nation deal with the US that would expect migrant to demand shelter there first, yet the court’s choice seems to have unilaterally realized a similar outcome.

On Thursday, Lopez Obrador said that he held talks by telephone with President Donald Trump a day earlier, taking note of the US president perceived Mexico’s endeavors and relations between the two nations were awesome.

He additionally made conditions were looking better for the confirmation of another facilitated trade agreement between US, Mexico and Canada.

Mexico has on Tuesday reiterated its refusal to so-called “safe third country” deal which would ask US-bound migrants travelling through Mexico to first assume their asylum claim in Mexico.

The US and Mexican officials met on Thursday in order to discuss progress made towards decreasing irregularities in immigration to America, according to Al-Jazeera.
