New Delhi, August 22: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has on Wednesday held a telephonic conversation with his British counterpart Boris Johnson during which he lifted the issue of terrorism and violence, calling the need for “effective steps to ward off the threats posed by radicalization, violence, and intolerance”.

During the phone call, Modi raised an issue of violence that took place on Independence Day outside the Indian embassy in London. While replying to this, Johnson “regretted the incident and assured that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure safety and security of the High Commission, its personnel and visitors”.

The development comes in the wake of various reports suggesting Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan was using some kind of organization based in the United Kingdom (UK) to radicalize Sikh youths and gathered funds for terror activities in India.

New Delhi had earlier too lifted such issues of Britain increasingly evolving a centre for anti-Indian demonstrations and stressed over the need for bilateral cooperation to counter terrorism.

Speaking on the pertaining situation in Kashmir, the British prime minister cleared the UK views these issues as a bilateral matter between Pakistan and India and noted the importance of bilateral dialogues to resolve the issue.

The development came before the Group of 7 (G20) summit slated to take place in France scheduled on the weekend, where both the leaders are expected to meet for the very first time since Johnson assumed the office as the PM of UK.

“Ahead of the G7, the two prime ministers agreed to the importance of working together to tackle climate change and other threats to biodiversity. They looked forward to meeting at the summit this weekend to discuss this and other issues.”
