Brexit Deal Boris Johnson

Following the UK Supreme Court verdict on Tuesday, MPs of the UK parliament resume their duties. The Court had found that the suspension of the UK Parliament was ‘unlawful’, this paved way for the MPs to resume their duties. The Speaker of the House of Common, John Bercow, said that the parliament would reconvene on Wednesday around 11:30 AM BST.

This ruling comes as another defeat for UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson who has already lost six votes in the UK Parliament. The prime minister had advised the Queen to suspend the parliament till October 14th. The Prime Minister’s attempts to hold fresh elections being one of them.

This came at a time when the UK is divided on the solution to the Brexit quagmire. With many wanted to part ways with a deal and the current government deciding to quit the European Union without a deal. Now since the UK Parliament has enacted a law making ‘No-Deal’ Brexit highly unlikely and forcing the government to seek an extension if no agreement is reached prior to the deadline of October 31st.

Opposition leaders have welcomed the ruling of the court and have been critical of the government. Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn has said that the prime minister should now consider his position. This has been one of the many calls for the resignation of Boris Johnson.

While the prime minister travels back after attending the United Nations, his party would be trying to devise a strategy to prevent further fallout caused by the verdict. The MPs would be preparing for the Prime Minister to arrive and answer some critical questions about the Brexit strategy and how he plans to move further.

Many believed that the call for the suspension of the parliament was a way to keep the Parliament away from the scrutiny of the Brexit plan. The Labour party will watch closely how the Prime minister would now try to react.
