India’s vice president Venkaiah Naidu has on Wednesday visited Paraguay, marking first-ever Indian VP’s visit to the Republic of Paraguay, to bolster diplomatic and bilateral ties.

According to ANI news reports, Naidu was received by Hugo Saguier Caballero, Paraguay’s deputy minister for foreign affairs.

The vice president, on Tuesday, embarked on a two-country official visit to Paraguay and Costa Rica in order to bolster bilateral relations with both the Latin American countries.

During his visit to both nations, Naidu will seek support and assistance of both the countries for India’s bid for permanent membership in the UN security council, including strengthening the cooperation in several key areas which includes culture, trade, science and technology with Costa Rica and Paraguay.

Naidu was accompanied by Alphonse Joseph Kannanthanam, minister of state for culture and tourism, senior government officials and member of parliament Ram Kumar Kashyap, for his eight-day official tour to two Latin American countries.

After reaching to Paraguay, Naidu will pay a visit to the national pantheon of heroes and also pay homage to the fallen soldiers by placing the wreath. Afterwards, he will hold talks with Paraguay’s President Mario Abdo Benitez at Palacio de Gobierno.

Naido will interact with the nation’s business communities and will review a presentation over “Business and investment opportunities” in Paraguay. Then, he will be emplaning to San Jose on March 7. After arriving there, he will receive a degree of doctor of philosophy (Honoris Causa) in the International Peace & Conflict Studies bestowed by the University for Peace in recognition of his contribution to peace, sustainable development, democracy and the rule of law.

On March 9, the president of Congress of the Republic of Costa Rica Carolina Hidalgo Herrera will call on Naidu, followed by banquet lunch hosted by the First Vice President of the Republic of Costa Rica Epsy Campbell Barr.

Later, Naidu will attend a reception hosted for the Indian community before leaving for India en route Madrid
