NATO alliance summit to take place in London in December

The top leaders of the NATO allies are set to hold a summit in London, United Kingdom, in December, the secretary general of the Western military alliance, Jens Stoltenberg has said in an official statement on Wednesday.

According to Reuters news reports, the choices of the venues have been added symbolism, as Britain further prepares to leave the European Union, the bloc, next month while also asserting that it will retain a basic key role in the security of the continent.

The last NATO summit has been held in July at the alliance’s Brussels headquarters, where it saw the United States President Donald Trump unsettling many of the European allies, including Germany, with various demands that they used to spend more over their own defence and systems, and reduce what Trump called their dependence over Russia for much of their energy needs.

Stoltenberg said: “We are grateful to the United Kingdom for agreeing to host this meeting in NATO’s 70th anniversary year.

It further added, “London was the home of NATO’s first headquarters. The United Kingdom was one of the Alliance’s twelve founding members and continues to play a key role in the Alliance, making essential contributions to our shared security.”

He said the meeting going to be held in London will act as an opportunity in order to address the security challenges we face now and in the future and to ensure that NATO continues to adapt in order to keep its population of almost one billion people safe.
