Jeddah, Sep 16: Foreign ministerial-level emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has begun on Sunday in Jeddah.

The ministers held discussions over recent Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s statements where he claimed to annex West Bank if re-elected as the nation’s prime minister.

Delivering his speech on the sidelines of the OIC emergency conference, Palestinian foreign minister Riad al-Malki said: “Netanyahu’s recent announcement undermines the efforts of peace and threatens the regional and world stability.”

OIC secretary-general, Yousef Al-Othaimeen, in his opening speech called “to put in place mechanisms to hold Israel accountable for its aggression against the Palestinians”, according to Anadolu Agency.

Saudi Arabia foreign minister Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-Assaf said Israel’s plans were “null and void”. Although Arab nations are facing several different challenges, Al-Assaf claimed the Palestinian issue would remain the main focus cause for the region.

On Tuesday, Netanyahu vowed during an electoral rally that he would annex parts of occupied areas in the West Bank – including Jordan valley and the Dead Sea’s north part, if he wins the general election, scheduled for September 17.

However, Netanyahu’s rally statement attracted huge strong condemnation from Muslim states, as well as, many other nations.
