Khartoum, August 19: Ousted ex-Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has arrived at the court to face charges levelled against him, which his lawyer claims are baseless.

According to BBC news reports, Bashir was ousted in April following months of protest against his 30 years of ruling. Prosecutors in June said Omar was obtained with a big hoard of foreign currency found at his home.

Pro-democracy activists and the nation’s transitional military council (TMC) leaders inked a deal paving ways for elections in the nation.

As per AFP news agency reports, Bashir arrived at the court with a military convoy. Witnesses say there was heavy security near the courtroom in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.

The former Sudanese president faces charges which are related to “possessing foreign currency, corruption and receiving gifts illegally”.
