Pakistan has on Friday announced the launch of guidelines for the implementation of the United Nations security council (UNSC) 1267 Sanctions, targeting UN-designated terror outfits or individuals in the nation.

Islamabad’s foreign office (FO) said the proposed guidelines will facilitate to meet international community obligations against terror groups and people which were targeted by the UN, according to TOI news reports.

Foreign secretary Tehmina Janjua said that the country needs to be mindful of fulfilling all its foreign legal obligations, including the implementation of the UNSC sanctions in the country.

The foreign secretary expressed hope that the proposed guidelines would help all stakeholders in discharging their responsibility for the implementation of the UN sanctions.

The guidelines have been prepared by the national committee to oversee implementation of UN sanctions against entities and individuals designated by the UNSC 1267 Da’esh/al-Qaida sanctions regime and security council 1988 (Taliban Sanctions regime), the FO said.

It has been formulated in consultation with the stakeholders as well as in compliance with foreign standards, specifically the need of the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Pakistan has been under tense international pressure to rein in terror outfits who are operating from its soil, following the Pulwama terror attack in February in Jammu and Kashmir, claimed by Pakistani-based and backed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror organization chief Masood Azhar, which has led to the deaths of about 44 Indian CRPF personnel.

Since the attack, the international community moved UNSC to sanction JeM chief Masood Azhar, but however, China reportedly opposed and blocked the move.
