Pakistan’ UN envoy Maleeha Lodhi briefs UNGA chief Maria Fernanda Espinosa over pertaining Kashmir’ situation

New York, August 27: Pakistan ambassador to the United Nations, Maleeha Lodhi, has on Monday met Maria Fernanda Espinosa, the president of the United Nations General Assembly
(UNGA), and discussed the Kashmir issue, according to Express Tribune.

The development comes a few days after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting in France with UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres and conveyed him revoking Article 370 of the Indian constitution was New Delhi’s internal matter and no steps were taken that poses threat to the regional peace.

Lodhi said via twitter: “Met Maria Fernanda Espinosa , President of UN General Assembly & briefed her in detail about the grave situation in occupied Kashmir where the continuing curfew & lockdown is exacerbating the suffering of the Kashmiri people.UN should live up to its obligations on IOK”

Lodhi’s meeting was yet another attempt by Pakistan as the nation found itself isolated completely despite its efforts aimed at internationalizing the Kashmir issue.

New Delhi has apprised Islamabad categorically revoking of Article 370 was an “internal matter”. Following India’s decision, Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had moved to China seeking help at the UN security council (UNSC), urging for an urgent meeting over the issue.

However, Pakistan got backings of only from one nation, China, out of five permanent members in the United Nations (UN) panel over India’s decision of scrapping Article 370 that offered a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
