Imran Khan

Imran Khan, the legendary cricketer and the founder of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) has been issued a non-bailable warrant by the election commission of Pakistan. This warrant has been issued for failing to appear in the court repeatedly and not giving a written justification or apology to the court for not appearing despite various letters.

The case in question has been filed by Akbar S Babar, one of the founding members of PTI. The court has ordered for Imran Khan to be arrested and brought in front of the court at the next hearing of the case, which is on 26th October.

Naeemul Haq, spokesperson of PTI stated that the party will file a review petition in the Islamabad high court against the order.

Before this also, on September 14th, the election commission had issued a bailable warrant against Imran Khan, however, the same was later suspended on PTI’s petition. Babar Awan, Chief Counsel of PTI told media that the EC has issued a fresh warrant in the same case in which it has already suspended another warrant last month. PTI is looking into the legal options into the case and will take suitable action accordingly.

Imran Khan had earlier accused ECP of being biased towards PTI in a case related to foreign funding. PTI had submitted an apology in the defence, however, Imran Khan once again fueled the controversy stating that he had not apologised and the apology letter submitted was in the personal capacity of Babar Awan, the chief counsel of PTI.
