Pakistan has on Wednesday summoned Gaurav Ahluwalia, India’s acting high commissioner, over the alleged “ceasefire violations” after India curbed an attempt by Pakistan Air Force today’s morning to carry out strikes in Jammu and Kashmir by shooting down F-16 fighter aircraft.

According to a statement released by the Pakistani foreign ministry, the director-general south Asia and SAARC Dr Mohammad Faisal told top Indian diplomats to “respect the 2003 ceasefire agreement” and “its forces should respect and maintain peace on the Line of Control (LOC) and the working boundary”.

According to ANI news reports, a day after Indian Air Force (IAF) targeted Jaish-e-Mohammed terror camps in Balakot, J&K saw heightened military activities today along with Pakistani air jets violating the Indian air space and also dropping bombs in Rajouri region after which one of their fighters was shot down.

New Delhi said it has foiled an attempt by the PAF this morning to carry out strikes in J&K by shooting down a fighter plane while losing its own fighter jet, MiG-21, after which an Indian pilot went “missing in action”.

Early today, Islamabad’s Prime Minister Imran Khan said Pakistani fighter jets transgressed into the Indian region in order to demonstrate their capabilities but said the country does not want any war with India, with the kind of “weapons” which Pakistan do not have and that it cannot afford “miscalculations”.

At a media briefing in New Delhi, India’s external affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, who was flanked by air vice marshal RGK Kapoor, said Islamabad has resorted to using its Pakistan Air Force to target Indian military installations on the Indian soil in response to India’ counter-terror strike against the JeM terror outfit in Balakot yesterday.

Kumar said: “Due to our high state of readiness and alertness, Pakistan’s attempts were foiled successfully.”

The Pakistan Air Force plane was detected and the alert IAF responded to it instantly, Kumar said, adding that one Pakistan Air Force jet was shot down by India’s MiG-21 Bison fighter jet.
