United States vice president will on next week address the United Nations security council on Venezuelan crisis, as the 15-member committee remains deadlock over how to handle Venezuelan humanitarian and political crisis.

According to Reuters news reports, a White House official said VP Mike Pence will address the UNSC next week on Venezuelan economic crisis, as the US has sought support for its backing of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the rightful and legitimate president of the country.

In a request for a meeting seen by Reuters, the United States missions to the United Nations wrote: “Given the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country, we believe a briefing is necessary and timely.” According to diplomats, the meeting has been scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

According to an internal UN report which was seen by Reuters, the UN has estimated that around a quarter of Venezuelans are need of humanitarian assistance.

However, Maduro has said there is no economic and humanitarian crisis in the country. In mid-February, Venezuela has blocked US effort of sending a humanitarian convoy to the country through Colombian border, though, has accepted Russian humanitarian assistance. Moscow has also provided military assistance to Maduro’s government.
