Chinese ambassador has said on Wednesday Peru will soon sign an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) in order to join Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in upcoming days, despite warnings from the United States over Beijing’s rise in Latin America.

According to Reuters news reports, China’s ambassador Jia Guide has made this announcement at a private party to guests alongside Peru’s vice premier, as Beijing kicked off its second BRI summit scheduled for three days, which Peru’s top leaders and trade minister are attending.

Once the MoU will get inked, Peru will become one of those Latin American countries to formally join the BRI, China’s flagship infrastructure policy, underlining how nations across the world were being drawn under Chinese orbit by investment promises, despite US objections.

Peru’s vice president Mercedes Araoz has said his country’s relationship with the US would continue to remain strong and same.

At an event followed by Chinese envoy’s announcement, Araoz told Reuters: “Signing this memorandum of understanding is the start of a cooperation model that China has proposed to the world which…will allow us to broaden our ties.”

“We’ve established very strong bilateral relations with China as we have with the United States,” Araoz added.

The three-day summit will offer a platform to the nations participating in BRI (Belt and Road Initiatives) for internationally exchanging their experiences and views over regional connectivity, trade, socio-economic development and policy synergy, and commerce.

India has for the second time decided to boycott China’s BRI forum, which is likely to be attended by the representatives and leaders of 37 nations.
