On Saturday, the parliamentary board of PML-N met to discuss the options of their interim and full-time president. As per the sources, the board has finally approved the name of Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother to be the next prime minister of Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif, who continues to lead the party despite his disqualification as the prime minister of the country by the supreme court, called a couple of meeting on Saturday. Nawaz Sharif had earlier suggested the name of his younger brother for the post and in today’s meeting, the same was approved by the parliamentary board.

Shehbaz Sharif will now have to win a national assembly seat to be eligible for the post. However, according to the sources, he will be contesting from the traditional seat of Nawaz Sharif, which got vacated after his termination. The seat is considered to be a safe-hold for PML-N and the party will not face many issues in getting him elected. Until the time Shehbaz gets eligible for the post, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will fill in as the interim prime minister.

Shehbaz is currently serving as the chief minister of Punjab. Speculations about his resignation are now rift and it is believed that he might resign anytime. According to sources, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman might be elected as the next chief minister of Punjab.

A formal announcement on the matter is yet to be made by the party.
