In a pre-recorded interview which was broadcasted by the Kremlin on Monday evening, Russian President Vladimir Putin opened up about the possibilities of arranging an upcoming summit with President Donald Trump in the near future. In this segment, President Putin outright blamed the wild political ructions going on in the United States for standing in the way of allowing the two leaders to confer with each other in a peaceful meeting.

President Putin brought up the proposed summit by President Trump, where the latter hinted at an upcoming meeting between the two leaders, stating that the fragile ties which were expected to be mended in the summit had already been strained further by events like the progression of violence in Syria, and the March poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Kripal in Britain. In response to the Austrian national public service broadcaster ORF questioning the unnecessary delay in rescheduling the summit, President Putin replied that the answer to that lay within his respected counterparts in the USA. According to President Putin, consequences of perpetual “fierce domestic contest” in the United States had had a direct negative effect upon the chances of a diplomatic summit between President Trump and President Putin.

President Putin’s aforementioned interview with the ORF which covered his upcoming visit to Austria on Tuesday was broadcasted by the Kremlin on all national channels on the 4th of June. The President did not elaborate further regarding the topic, but he did mention that he agreed with President Trump’s previous allegations of both the countries running at the risk of an arms race. However, even on this topic, President Putin did not elaborate much, other than bringing up the untimely withdrawal of the US from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty signed between the USA and the Soviet Union in 2002 by President George W. Bush.
