Qatar has on Saturday, said that it still remained committed to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) but in order to enforce rules better of it, the bloc is needed, so the signaling the reformed alliance could be much helpful in order to put an end to a row between Doha and its some neighbours.

Qatar foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said that Qatar was continuing counting on regional powers and Kuwait in order to help to solve the row that has occurred in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the non-GCC member of Egypt has imposed a economical and political boycott since June, 2017, on Doha.

Foreign minister told an annual Doha forum that “we believe that we are more relevant as a bloc” for West than as compared to fragmented and separated countries, but also said that the GCC has “no teeth” and does need a mechanism of dispute resolution.

According to news reports, foreign minister said, “They have mechanisms in place and never trigger them (to hold people accountable) because some countries believe they are non-binding, so we need to make sure all the rules we are submitting to are binding to everyone in this region.”

Four states has accused Qatar of harbouring terrorism and supporting terrorism and also tried to attain friendship with the regional foe Iran. However, Doha denied the allegations and said that the boycott aimed to curtail the sovereignty.

The dispute has been avoided efforts made by Kuwait, which is a part of GCC along with Oman, and United states, which believed that Gulf unity is much essential for containing Iran.

According to news reports, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has told forum, “In the Gulf crisis our position remains unchanged – lifting the blockade and settling the differences via dialogue.”
