Tehran, June 18: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has on Tuesday announced the nation “will not wage war against any nations” after United States President Donald Trump declared the deployment of an additional 1,000 American troops to the Middle East amidst rising tensions.

The US moves, announced by acting defence secretary Patrick Shanahan, has come after Washington blamed Tehran for the recent attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, which raised serious fear and threat concerns in the region of a confrontation. Though, Iran has denied any wrongdoing.

In a statement, Shanahan wrote. “The recent Iranian attacks validate the reliable, credible intelligence we have received on hostile behaviour by Iranian forces and their proxy groups that threaten United States personnel and interests across the region.” He said the troops’ deployment was for defensive purposes.

A statement issued by US Central Command stated: “Iran is responsible for the attack based on video evidence and the resources and proficiency needed to quickly remove the unexploded limpet mine.”

In response to the US move, Rouhani on Tuesday said Tehran contains no desire for conflict with any nation, according to The Guardians news reports.

In a speech broadcasted live on state-run TV, Rouhani said, “Iran will not wage war against any nation,” adding, “Those facing us are a group of politicians with little experience.”

He added: “Despite all of the Americans’ efforts in the region and their desire to cut off our ties with all of the world and their desire to keep Iran secluded, they have been unsuccessful.”
