Islamabad, August 12: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has on Sunday said the Kashmir spat contains no military solution and that it should be resolved through diplomacy by the governments of both India and Pakistan.

During a telephonic conversation with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, Rouhani stated the two neighbouring nations should exercise maximum restraint and halt killing innocent people in Jammu and Kashmir, according to ANI news reports.

Rouhani further added the spat over the Kashmir issue was causing apprehension for all different nations in the subcontinent, as reported by Dunya News.

Khan has made the call as part of his outreach to the world leaders over the decision taken by the Indian government to scrap Article 370 that offered a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier too, he had made such calls to Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Bin Mohamad and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Islamabad has pursued a series of retaliation actions against the scrapping of Article 370, by downgrading bilateral and diplomatic ties with India, as well as, suspending trade mechanism between the two neighbouring nations.
