Glasglow, May 30: Pro-independence Scottish government has on Wednesday proposed legislation seeking to pay ways to a second referendum on the independence of Scotland.

Constitutional Relations Secretary of the ruling Scottish National Party (SNP) Mike Russell has launched by the Referendum (Scotland) Bill at the parliament of Scotland in Edinburg, according to Al-Jazeera news reports.

The new legislation which does not deliver date for any referendum, has come days after the governing SNP declared victory in the European Parliamentary polls.

The outcomes have shown the SNP has topped the polls in 30 out of 32 council areas of Scotland and has received three seats out of six which were allocated to the country as a part of the United Kingdom’s designated 73 members of the European Parliament, according to ANI news reports.

While her critics opposed to the proposal, SNP chief and Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has hailed the legislation as a chance for the nation “…to choose a better future than the one being offered by (London) Westminster”.

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party constitution spokesperson Adam Tomkins told Al Jazeera it would “come as no surprise to anybody in Scotland that Nicola Sturgeon has decided to use the EU elections to manufacture the case for a second independence referendum”.

He added saying, “No matter what people in Scotland say or do, the SNP’s answer is always the same – to take us out of the UK.”

Sturgeon has said earlier this week the SNP’s victory in the European Parliamentary polls was a clear hint to the United Kingdom (UK) that Scotland has once again stood opposed to British Prime Minister proposed Brexit deal.
