The Russian media regulator on Friday, said that it would now carry out operational program to check whether the BBC internet sites and BBC World News channel complied with the laws of Russia, a move described as a response to the British pressure over a Russian television channel.

In an official statement, regulator Roskomnadzor said the checks made were a response to a British media regulator Ofcom, who alleged on Thursday, saying that Russian TV channel broadcaster RT had broken some laws while reporting some of its current affairs and news programs.

According to news reports, the Russian regulator said, “The results of our check will be announced separately.” No response were fetched from either the Ofcom or BBC.

Ofcom has on Thursday, said after noticing a law break by a Russian broadcaster, it decided to impose some king of sanctions over Russian RT, which used to be financed by the Russian state. It said it took an issue very particularly over its coverage of poisoning in Britain of a former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter.

Britain has accused and alleged agents for working for the GRU, Russian military intelligence agency, for committing several crimes, which Moscow denied.

British media secretary Jeremy Wright has on Thursday, said RT’s mask of broadcasting impartial news was slipping down now. Though, RT declined Ofcom’s finding with a saying that Ofcom ignored its explanations and had not paid “due regard” to its law rights.
