Islamabad, August 26: Pakistan’s Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has on Sunday cancelled his official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a day after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the Gulf country’s highest civilian award during his official visit to Abu Dhabi, as per the media reports.

Sanjrani was scheduled on August 25 to embark on an official three-day visit to the UAE, leading a team of parliamentary delegation over the invitation extended by the UAE government.

His delegation was slated to hold meetings with their UAE government and parliamentarian counterparts, state-run Geo TV reported.

However, he decided to abort his trip as Islamabad vehemently backs Kashmiri people, the Geo TV said, citing an official statement from the Senate Secretariat.

On Saturday, Modi was awarded the “Order of Zayed” – the UAE’s highest civilian honour, as a sign of appreciation or praise for the Indian prime minister’s efforts to boost the bilateral relations between two countries.

Modi thanked the government of the UAE for the honour and further dedicated the honour to the abilities and skills of 1.3 billion Indians.
