Riyadh, May 30: Saudi Arabian foreign minister Ibrahim al-Assad has on Thursday called on all Muslim countries to “confront” ship attack with all “means of force and firmness” off the United Arab Emirates (UAE) coast, which the United States has blamed Iran.

According to Sputnik news reports, the Saudi minister has made this comment during a meeting of the foreign ministers for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation conference on Thursday.

Two Riyadh’s oil tankers and another two vessels were targeted off the UAE coast earlier this month near Fujairah, emirate among the seven, in what the UAE foreign ministry has termed as “acts of sabotage”.

Assaf has said the sabotage of vessels and oil tankers, including a recent drone attack over a Saudi oil shipment need “more efforts to counter the terrorist acts of extremist and terrorist group”.

Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi Prince, has claimed via tweet the drone attack was “ordered by the regime in Tehran, and carried out by the Houthis”, but Tehran has refused to accept its involvement and accusations.

Assaf’s call to take actions comes a day after US national security advisor John Bolton has stated “it is clear” all attacks were “almost certainly” directed from Iran.

He continued saying additional American troops have been sent to the Middle East to “act as a deterrent”. He said, “The point is to make it very clear to Iran and its surrogates that these kinds of actions risk a very strong response from the United States.”

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Abbas Mousavi reacted to Bolton’s accusation while also dismissing them as “ridiculous”.

“But, Mr. Bolton and other warmongers need to know that the strategic patience, high vigilance and full defence readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which emanates from the strong resolve of its great nation, will not let them fulfill their ominous schemes to create chaos in the region”, Mousavi said.
