Mecca, Saudi Arabia, May 31: Saudi Arabian King Salman has said on Friday decisive move was required to put an end to Iranian “escalations” following recent attacks on Saudi oil tankers, as the United States officials and deployment of military forces had blocked Iran.

According to Reuters news reports, the rights of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia to protect their interests after several recent attacks oil shipments off the UAE coasts and oil stations in Riyadh were supported in the Gulf statement, as well as, a separate press release was issued after holding a wider summit.

However, Tehran has denied all the accusations levelled against the nation and denied any wrongdoing, and Iraq, who benefits good relations with the US and Iran, has said it objected the Arab press release, which has stated any cooperation with Iran should be based over “non-interference in other countries”.

“The absence of a firm deterrent stance against Iranian behaviour is what led to the escalation we see today,” King Salman told the two consecutive meetings late on Thursday.

World’s top crude oil exporters ruler stated Shi’ite Iranian development of missile and nuclear capabilities and its threats over world oil supplied posed a strong risk to global and regional security.
US secretary of state Mike Pompeo has on Thursday said the attacks on four vessels near a bunkering centre, outside of Hormuz Strait, were “efforts by Iranians to raise the price of crude oil around the world”.
Saudi Arabia accused Iran of ordering drone attacks. The drone attacks were claimed by Iran’s Houthi rebel forces which has been fighting against a Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen since the past four years.
On Thursday, US national security adviser John Bolton has stated he would present shreds of evidence of Iran being behind those recent oil and drone attacks. He would present evidence to the United Nations security council (UNSC) next week.

“The kingdom is keen to preserve the stability and security of the region, to spare it the scourge of war and to realize peace and stability,” King Salman said.

Iranian state-run IRNA news agency reported Tehran dismissed calling it “baseless” accusations made at the summit.
IRNA quoted Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Abbas Mousavi as saying, “We see the Saudi effort to mobilize (regional) opinion as part of the hopeless process followed by America and the Zionist regime (Israel) against Iran.”
Barham Salih, the president of Iraq, has asked the gathering to back Iraqi stability, saying rising tensions with Iran could generate a war in the region if not managed well.
