Venezuela opposition to return National Assembly

Buenos Aries, May 30: Embattled Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has on Wednesday said the second round of negotiations has been conducted with the opposition in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, noting secret dialogues have been underway for around a couple of months.

According to Sputnik news reports, Maduro was quoted by his press service late on Wednesday as saying, “[On] May 29, the second day of dialogue with the opposition ended in Norway. Minister [for Communication and Information] Jorge Rodriguez, Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza and [Miranda state] Governor Hector Rodriguez were present there.”

Maduro pointed out he considered talks with the opposition officials to be constructive, adding the covert dialogues were underway since quite a while.

The president said he appointed a delegation, which has been secretly negotiating for around two to three months with the opposition.

Maduro said, ” I want a peace agreement for Venezuela. I ask for support from the country, Chavism and the motherland … Our path is a dialogue, respect for the constitution, peace, democracy, development and problem-solving.”

The communication platform for opposition leader Juan Guaido, speaker of the National Assembly, meanwhile, said: “the meeting ended without agreements”.

The centre added, “We are grateful to the government of Norway for their will to help resolve the chaos which is gripping the country. We are ready to continue [to work] with them.”

The statement has come after Oslo announced on Wednesday it had hosted another round of negotiations between the Venezuelan govt and its opposition.

The Norwegian government has stated the parties have demonstrated their willingness to move towards finding for “an agreed-upon and constitutional solution” for Venezuela, which is facing an economic and political crisis.

Oslo urged them to “show their utmost caution in their comments and statements regarding the process”.
