United States Senator Michael Bennet has on Thursday announced his bid running for 2020 US presidential election against President Donald Trump, shortly after weeks of prostate cancer surgery.

According to Dawn news reports, Bennet’s big bring to 21 the number of candidates seeking to challenge the US president in 2020, making a room for a fight for the party’s nomination.

Announcing his bid, Bennet took it to twitter and said, “We cannot be the first generation to leave less to our kids, not more. That’s why I’m running for President.”

He added, “Let’s build opportunity for every American and restore integrity to our government.”

Bennet, a Democrat from Colorado, had previously announced he was contemplating an election run in March, but however, those plans were put on hold as he revealed he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

He underwent surgery around mid-April, after which a spokesperson told Politico that doctors said the surgery was “completely successful and he requires no further treatment”.

“I feel incredibly lucky — because I got a diagnosis and five years later after an operation, I was cleared with a clean bill of health,” Bennet told CBS’s This Morning on Thursday.

He added, “That gave me a chance to think about whether I really wanted to run or not.”
