South Korea’s nominee for unification minister has said on Tuesday he will be seeking a “creative solution” to facilitate the third meeting between North Korea’ leader Kim Jong-un and the United States President Donald Trump soon.

According to Reuters news reports, during a confirmation hearing for the post of Unification Minister at the National Assembly in Seoul on Tuesday, the nominee, Kim Yeon-chul said, “I will seek a creative solution so that North Korea and the U.S. can meet again soon and find common ground.”

However, Kim didn’t offer details over his creative solution plan but said he will seek various paths to cooperate with Pyongyang for the two Koreans to become one.

A longtime confidant of South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Kim is a pro-engagement scholar who heads the state-run Korea Institute for National Unification.

Kim will likely expedite the president’s initiative for “peace-driven economy”, according to an earlier statement by Moon’s spokesperson.

Trump and his North counterpart Kim held their second summit in Vietnam last month, where both the powerful leaders failed to reach any nuclear deal as Kim was pressuring over sanctions relief, while Trump stood at his stance of Kim’s commitment of full denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
