On Friday, the 18th of May, Canadian serial killer Paul Bernardo was sent to a courtroom in Napanee, Ontario, after he was charged with unauthorized possession of weapons within his prison cell in Bath. Bernardo had been labelled a dangerous offender after many murder and sexual assault cases filed against him back in 1995. He was shifted to the Millhaven Institution in Bath, Ontario, in 2013 where he was expected to stay behind bars for the rest of his life.

Bernardo had been spending time at the Millhaven Institution where he had been sentenced to life without any parole for at least 25 years, based on charges against first-degree murder, kidnapping, forcible confinement and aggravated sexual assault. However, in a recent development of events, Paul Bernardo had been accused of building and possessing a “homemade shank composed of a screw and a pen for a handle” within his prison cell in Millhaven. The offence allegedly occurred sometime on the 9th of February, and its trial has been postponed to the 5th of October, 2018.

Paul Kenneth Bernardo had been convicted of various offences following the homicide of Tammy Homolka, an acquaintance in his killings who was also the younger sister of his wife. Paul, also known as the Scarborough Rapist in the days, had been first arrested in the early ‘90s based on allegations of rape and murder or several teenage girls at his home in St. Catharines, Ontario. He was finally admitted to the Kingston Penitentiary after he pleaded guilty of sexually assaulting over 13 women in and around Toronto, excluding the murders of 14 year old Leslie Mahaffy, and 15 year old Kristen French, which he was convicted of after a trial in 1995.
