A team from Disneyland will be visiting Sri Lanka in November to decide upon setting up South Asia’s first Disneyland in Hambantota.
“Diana (State Tourism Minister) is walking the talk! The team from Disneyland have AGREED to visit #SriLanka in Nov. to hold discussions on setting up South Asia’s 1st Disneyland in Hambantota!” said Jamila Husain, Associate Editor of Daily Mirror on Twitter.
Diana Gamage will be visiting the US soon to discuss plans for the $18bn investment following an invitation from Walt Disney,” added Husain.
State Minister Diana Gamage earlier said that Disney officials have been in talks with her regarding opening Disneyland in Sri Lanka. It can inject foreign currency into Sri Lanka’s economy.
Sri Lanka is striving to revitalize the economy in every possible manner. It has also bagged the hosting rights for ‘Miss Tourism World – International Finale 2022’, to be conducted in Colombo.
The other two countries shortlisted to host the 75th edition of the ‘Miss Tourism World 2022′ global Pageant’ were Croatia and Russia. They voluntarily opted out to allow Sri Lanka to host this event, reported Sunday Observer.
The countries knew that the event would support tourism revival in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka will host the event from 8-21 December, with the winners from 80 countries receiving a destination price of around USD 40 million to Sri Lanka.
During the pageant, the winners will get a chance to visit all the places of tourism in Sri Lanka, including Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Habarana, Ella, Arugam Bay, Mirissa, and Galle.
This event has come in the wake of the Sri Lankan economic crisis due to fiscal mismanagement, corruption, and the agricultural crisis.
Sri Lanka, a land of 22 million people, is going through the worst economic phase in seven decades, leaving millions struggling to find food, medicine, fuel, and other essentials.
