Colombo, Oct 7: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has chosen not to keep running in the nation’s presidential political polls going to be held on November 16.

Sirisena’s name was not on a rundown of 41 competitors who paid deposits by Sunday’s early afternoon cutoff time to challenge the November 16 presidential survey, as per Election Commission records.

Sirisena caused an established emergency a year ago when he sacked Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and supplanted him with ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa, a previous political opponent. Later, the Supreme Court ruled against Sirisena’s activity and restored Wickremesinghe.

On Friday, a court rejected a case looking for the retraction of Gotabaya’s citizenship, making room for him to enlist as a competitor. Some 15.99 million people beyond 18 years old years are qualified to cast a ballot in the political decision.
