Colombo, May 22: Sri Lankan police has said on Tuesday a member of parliament (MP) who has been detained over the charges of having close contact with Islamic terror outfit National Thawheed Jamaath (NTJ) will be questioned.

According to ANI news reports, the MP who identified as Mohamed Naushad Jalaldeen, who served at the Hanzard department of Sri Lanka’s parliament since 2006 as a translator, was detained by the nation’s special police team on Monday in Kurunegala over charges of abetting and aiding NTJ leader.

Zahran Hashim claimed the responsibility of the deadliest Easter Sunday serial terror attacks on churches and hotels, according to The Daily Mirror.

Naushad is said to be an active member of the terror organization and has also conducted lectures over Islam extremism in Kandy and Akurana.

During a worldwide probe, the police have seized various suspicious shreds of equipment from Naushad’s residence in Rajagiriya. Police have said they will interrogate him for 90 days.

Following the detention of Naushad, the security at the parliament has been further tightened.

He was apprehended over the shreds of information obtained after interrogating him with the help of an electro-cardiologist of Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, who was then taken into custody over suspicion with other two on last Friday having close links to the proscribed NTJ terror outfit.
